Framatome ANP Joins Development of Next Generation Nuclear Reactors for the Reinvigorated U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Development

Framatome ANP Incorporated United States (Lynchburg, Virginia) is joining the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited - CANDU (AECL) (Mississauga, Ontario), Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (Barberton, Ohio), and Westinghouse Electric Company (Windsor, Connecticut) in the race to build the next generation of nuclear reactors, known as generation III+ and IV nuclear reactors.

Those companies developing Generation III+ or IV nuclear reactors will be required to have their design licensed by the NRC before the final permits can be issued.
Framatome ANP is developing the Evolutionary Pressurized Reactor (EPR). ACEL is developing the Advance CANDU Reactor (ACR). Babcox & Wilcox has been working on the Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR). Westinghouse, the first to get its design approved, has two models of the Advance Pressurized Reactors (APR) AP600 for 500-megawatt (MW) range plants and AP1000 for 1,000 MW range plants.

System Energy Resources LLC is a joint venture between Entergy Nuclear of Jackson, Mississippi, a division of Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR ) of New Orleans, Louisiana, 90%, and South Mississippi Electric Power Association, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 10%.
