Southern California Gas Company Plans to Expand Natural Gas Service to Twentynine Palms, California

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego California), is planning to expand natural gas service to the Twentynine Palms area of southern California just east of Los Angeles. SoCalGas plans to construct 60 miles of 16" diameter natural gas pipeline looping from a point just off interstate highway I-10 due north to the Twentynine Palms area.

The natural gas expansion project is expected to cost from $40 million to $60 million and will add an undisclosed amount of new capacity to the existing pipeline system. SoCalGas hopes to begin the construction phase on the project some time in late 2006 or early 2007, with completion expected three or four months after construction begins.

SoCalGas also intends to construct a separate 10-mile segment of new natural gas pipeline of undetermined capacity in its existing service area in 2006. The location and capacity of this second project is still as of yet unknown.
