Summary
Multiple grassroot, expansion and modernization projects are underway or lined up for U.S. animal feed mills across the country.Cross-Country Activity
Agricultural animal feed mills catering to poultry and livestock are investing big in U.S. construction projects, weighing in with around $1.5 billion worth of underway and planned capital investments. Industrial Info Resources data show that spending in this sector is strong across all U.S. market regions with the exception of New England.Current Construction
New plant construction at both grassroot and brownfield sites features largely in current U.S. feed mill construction, as do expansions at existing plants. One of the biggest feed mill projects is included as a component of a major Virginia investment from Virginia Poultry Growers, which is a turkey-only cooperative, so it is expected that turkey feed will be a major portion of the mill's production. A substantial amount of silo storage is being added as part of the investment, as is a rail spur. Construction is expected to last into early 2028. Subscribers can access details of the project, including construction timelines, key contact details, and equipment and service needs, by clicking here.Industrial Info Resources data show other grassroot feed mill construction projects underway in Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Nebraska and Kansas.
MPS, a joint venture of the Mercer Landmark farming cooperative and Prairie Star Farms egg producers, is building a new plant at a previous feed mill site in Saint Marys, Ohio. The mill is being built to supplement an existing MPS mill in nearby Saint Henry, which the company reports has been running at maximum capacity, leaving little room for outages. The Saint Marys mill will manufacture both poultry and swine feeds. An update on the plant from Mercer Landmark earlier this year suggested the facility remains on track for a 2027 opening date.
Multiple expansion projects at existing U.S. mills also suggest a relatively stable sector.
Future Construction Activity
While grassroot construction features in future U.S. feed mill project activity, the largest projects on the books are expansions and modernizations of existing plants. A modernization project is the name of the game for Sporting Valley Feeds' planned mill modernization project in southeastern Pennsylvania, which will include a new dust collection system along with other improvements.Agricultural behemoth Cargill will modernize a recently acquired mill in Denver, including the addition of new packing lines. Details on multiple other expansions and modernizations as well as future new mill construction can be found in Industrial Info Resources' Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Project Database.
