Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arcadis NV (Amsterdam, Netherlands), a global design and consulting firm that services construction projects across multiple industries, recently noted strong results from its U.S.-based work as a key element in a record-high backlog for its global business. Industrial Info is tracking more than $4.3 billion worth of active and proposed projects across the U.S. and Canada featuring Arcadis' services, covering transportation, power generation and pharmaceutical development, among other sectors.

Not surprisingly, Arcadis' single largest project is in the transportation sector: California High-Speed Rail Authority's $2 billion Fresno-to-Bakersfield high-speed line, which is part of an 800-mile, multi-phased rail project to connect Sacramento to San Diego. The line, which began construction in late 2015 and could wrap up as early as the summer of 2026, will run from East American Avenue in Fresno to just north of Bakersfield. It is designed to go as fast as 220 mph. Arcadis is serving as construction manager.

Arcadis also plays a role in the rapidly developing Chemical Processing Industry along the U.S. Gulf Coast. Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC (Houston, Texas), a joint venture between Lotus Infrastructure Partners (Greenwich, Connecticut) and Mabanaft GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), expects to finish construction in the coming months on its $950 million ammonia plant in Texas City, which is designed to produce 1.35 million metric tons per year of ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen gases, to supply agricultural fertilizer and specialty chemical markets, both domestically and internationally. Arcadis is serving as a consultant. Subscribers to Industrial Info's GMI Chemical Processing Project and Plant databases can learn more from a detailed project report and plant profile.

The growing demand for natural gas is evident in some of Arcadis' pipeline projects. Great Basin Gas Transmission Company, a subsidiary of Southwest Gas Holdings Incorporated (Las Vegas, Nevada), is employing Arcadis as an environmental consultant on its $75 million Gabbs Lateral Relocation Project in Nevada. Great Basin is replacing an outmoded line with a 32.6-mile line that will carry up to 100 million standard cubic feet per day of gas from an area east of Schurz to an area northwest of Gabbs. In the company's most recent earnings-related conference call, Justin Brown, the president of Southwest Gas, said such projects cater to rising demand for the resource in the U.S. West: "In response to inquiries about available capacity and the increased demand for natural gas, Great Basin posted a notice of binding open season for potential 2028 system expansion. This open season will remain open through May 2028, so we can determine the level of interest of existing and potential new shippers."

In the Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry, Arcadis and its subsidiaries are involved in both corporate and university-led projects. The company is performing architectural and engineering services for Pennsylvania State University's $90 million expansion of its Applied Research Lab in University Park, Pennsylvania, which the Penn State Board of Trustees' Finance and Investment Committee approved in November. The university says the new facility "will drive interdisciplinary research, promote recruitment and retention of talent, and support a facility renewal plan for aging infrastructure."

Arcadis DPS Group, which was formed after Arcadis acquired DPS Group in 2022, is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for Danaher Corporation's (Washington, D.C.) $430 million chromatography resins plant in Muskegon, Michigan, which will include the construction of at least three buildings.
