"Our business mix of regulated and renewables contracted businesses is one of our primary differentiators, as it positions us to fully capitalize on all the benefits the energy transition will bring," Chief Executive Officer Pedro Azagra, said in a press release for its 2022 Investor Day. This comes after the company recently announced it plans to consolidate its onshore and offshore renewables businesses.

Avangrid and global engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Sterling & Wilson Solar Solutions (Mumbai, India) are constructing two grassroot solar power facilities: the $195 million Montague plant in Arlington, Oregon, which will generate 162 megawatts (MW) utilizing more than 850,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules, and the 150-MW, $280 million Lund Hill plant in Bickleton, Washington. Both projects are expected to wrap up in the fourth quarter. Subscribers can see detailed reports for the Montague and Lund Hill projects.

Avangrid also is at work on constructing a Phase II addition at its Montague Windfarm in Arlington, which will generate 201.6 MW of power utilizing 56 wind turbine generators from General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts). Completion is expected in April 2024. A 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) is also planned for the facility. Subscribers can see reports for the windfarm addition and BESS.

Meanwhile, the 100-MW, $160 million Midland Windfarm in Kewanee, Illinois, is under construction. M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and PAR Electrical Contractors Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) are performing joint EPC services. Completion is expected in December. In terms of offshore wind, the company is proposing the 800-MW Kitty Hawk Windfarm, off North Carolina. Avangrid is now seeking permits from the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for the project. Click here for more information.

Avangrid plans to kick off two additional solar projects in 2023: a 200-MW unit addition at its Golden Hills Windfarm, and a 120-MW, $132 million grassroot Shaw plant in Bandera, Texas. The projects are expected to be completed in December 2023 and April 2024, respectively. Subscribers can see the Golden Hills and Shaw project reports.

In terms of infrastructure, Avangrid is at work on the AC Energy Highway project, a wide-ranging initiative to modernize New York's state energy infrastructure. The project includes upgrading and constructing a series of transmission lines in the south-central area of the state. Click here for related project reports.
