Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 84-megawatt (MW) Cannelton hydroelectric powerhouse in Kentucky has begun commercial operations. Located next to the Cannelton Dam on the Ohio River near Hawesville, the project was completed after five years of construction.
Owned and operated by American Municipal Power, Incorporated (Columbus, Ohio), the facility has three Voith hydro turbines to generate power for Ohio and Kentucky residents. The new facility also created nine permanent jobs.
Walsh Construction Company (Chicago, Illinois) managed the construction of the powerhouse on behalf of the owners. The project had a total investment value of $416 million.
