Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--CRI, or Carbon Recycling International, was the first and, to date, the only company to produce methanol at industrial scale from carbon dioxide (CO2). The company's George Olah renewable methanol plant is once the largest CO2-based methanol plant, with a capacity of 5,000 tons per year. This record will soon be break by another CRI project, invested by Geely Technology Group, in China. The project has a designed capacity of 110,000 tons per year of methanol from carbon dioxide and will be put into operation in 4Q21.
Industrial Info is tracking two active CO2-to-methanol projects, valued at more than $145 million, in China. One is the Geely's Shunli plant and the other one belongs to Shenghong Group.
