China's Sentury Tire Company to Build First Manufacturing Plant in North America

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sentury Tire North America LLC (Qingdao, Shandong, China) is preparing to build its first tire-manufacturing plant in North America. The facility will respond to growing demand in North America for radial tires, which are commonly used for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

The $530 million smart-technology factory in LaGrange, Georgia, is slated to begin construction this quarter. It will have an annual capacity of 12 million units per year, an advanced test track, a research and development center, a warehouse and distribution operations. Sentury Tire chose LaGrange as China's manufacturers see Georgia as a preferable work environment. The company also is considering a $400 million expansion in 2020 that would include an additional building. The two phases would employ at least 1,000 over the next six years. Sentury Tire selected SSOE Group (Toledo, Ohio) to design the facility on a 400-acre site in the Callaway South Industrial Park area.

"This project is a great example of the relationships that have been forged through active communication and engagement in China," said Chris Carr, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

Sentury Tire focuses on the production of light truck and airplane tires. Its products are sold under the Sentruy, Landsail and Delinte brands in the European and U.S. markets. Sentury Tire also has facilities in China and Thailand.
