Located in the Omaha metropolitan area, Papillion (population 24,000) is seeing a boom in tech company projects.

By far the largest project underway in the state is Facebook's expansion of its data-center campus in Papillion. The project entails constructing four data-hall buildings in addition to the two already present, with a total area of more than 1.6 million square feet. The data-center campus has been growing in leaps and bounds. Plans for the first two buildings were initially announced in 2017, and less than a year later, Facebook announced that it would expand the campus with the project presently under construction, which is scheduled to wrap up early next year. Facebook has already announced another phase of the project, which will add another two buildings totaling 1 million square feet. The campus is 16 miles away from Google's facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Construction of the Papillion project kicked off in early 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The plains of Nebraska provide ideal locations for windfarms, and Industrial Info is tracking about $800 million of wind projects under construction in the state. Among these is NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) Little Blue Windfarm near Bladen, in the south-central portion of the state. The facility will use 109 General Electric (NYSE:GE) 2.3-megawatt (MW) turbines to generate about 250 MW. Construction kicked off earlier this year, with Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) providing engineering, procurement and construction services, and is expected to be completed toward the end of the year. The Pharma-Biotech Industry also makes a strong showing in the state, with 10 projects under construction. Chief among these is Merck & Co. Incorporated's (NYSE:MRK) (Kenilworth, New Jersey) production facility for injectable animal vaccines and an accompanying warehouse in Elkhorn. Construction of Phase I, the production facility, kicked off in early 2020 and entails a three-story, 158,000-square-foot building. According to Merck, the Elkhorn site develops and manufactures a broad portfolio of vaccines, including canine, feline, bovine, poultry and swine vaccines. Merck also is expanding the facility's storage capacity by fitting out and equipping approximately 77,000 square feet to increase warehousing and cold storage of the vaccines. This part of the project kicked off last summer and is expected to wrap up early next year, followed by the production facility in 2023.
