Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Major French utility Electricite de France S.A. (EDF) (Paris) has returned two nuclear reactors to operational status, allowing France's electricity network to operate with 40 reactors out of 56. EDF restarted the Bugey Unit 3 in Ain, and Dampierre Unit 3 in Loiret.
According to EDF, the 40 connected reactors bring the available power to 39 gigawatts (GW). The French nuclear fleet has a maximum installed power of more than 61 GW.
Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can read detailed profiles on the Bugey and Dampierre plants.
For the first time in 42 years, France has reported net imports of electricity, attributed to low levels of nuclear generation due to scheduled, but sometimes prolonged, maintenance. Corrosion problems also have required lengthy repairs.
