Summary

A new project from ExxonMobil is one of several that could bring Guyana closer to its ambitious, long-term goal for offshore oil and gas development.

Stabroek Takes Starring Role

Exxon Mobil Corporation is making final preparations to bring the Errea Wittu FPSO unit (floating production, storage and offloading) onstream at the Uaru Field in the fourth quarter of 2026, while advancing other developments in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.

Production from Errea Wittu, which is ExxonMobil's fifth FPSO offshore Guyana, is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter. The unit, which arrived in Guyanese waters in August, has a nameplate production capacity of 250,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and 540 million cubic feet per day of natural gas. ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek block in partnership with Hess, now part of Chevron Corporation, and China's CNOOC.

Industrial Info Resources offers more information on Errea Wittu in its Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Oil & Gas Plant and Project databases, where subscribers can find details--including construction schedules, investment values and necessary equipment--in a detailed project report.

Guyana's Existing Offshore Capacity

Since commercial production began in the Stabroek Block in 2019, Guyana has established itself as one of the main growth hubs in Latin America's offshore sector. Altogether, four FPSOs are operational in Stabroek.

Together, these facilities have a nameplate capacity of 810,000 bpd, although some units have operated above their original design capacity, allowing national production averages to exceed 900,000 bpd during 2026. The startup of Errea Wittu will mark another milestone in the growth of Guyana's oil industry.

Beyond Uaru's upcoming startup, ExxonMobil is moving ahead with construction of the Jaguar and Hammerhead FPSOs, which will support continued growth in Guyana's offshore production in the coming years.

Subscribers can learn more from a detailed reports on Jaguar and Hammerhead.

Jaguar is intended for the Whiptail field development, with a nameplate crude oil production capacity of 250,000 bpd and startup expected in 2027. Hammerhead is set to follow and would add 150,000 bpd, starting in 2029. Once Uaru and these two units enter service, the country's nameplate crude oil production capacity could reach 1.46 million bpd in 2029, up from the current 810,000 bpd.

More Natural Gas on the Way

At the same time, ExxonMobil is moving ahead with plans to expand natural gas and condensate production in the Stabroek Block. According to Guyana's Ministry of Finance, the company submitted the development plan for its Longtail project in March.

Considered the block's eighth project, Longtail encompasses the Longtail, Tripletail and Turbot discoveries. In May, the company also applied for environmental approval for its Haimara project, identified as the ninth development.

Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Longtail and Haimara.

Both initiatives remain subject to government approvals. ExxonMobil aims to secure approval to proceed with Longtail before the end of 2026, while a final investment decision on Haimara is expected in 2027.

Unlike previous developments, which focused mainly on crude oil production, these projects would focus on natural gas and condensate production, with plans to reinject a significant share of the produced gas. If both projects are developed, Guyana could add between 410,000 and 470,000 bpd of condensate production capacity, expanding and diversifying its hydrocarbon supply.

Alongside the expansion of offshore production, Guyana is seeking to commercialize the natural gas associated with oil developments in the Stabroek Block. Most of this gas has so far been reinjected.

In this context, the Guyana Ministry of Natural Resources' Gas-to-Energy project (GTE) is one of the main initiatives aimed at using offshore gas resources to supply the domestic energy market. The infrastructure includes a 12-inch subsea gas pipeline that will connect the Liza Field facilities to the onshore Wales energy complex. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed list of related project reports.

Although construction of the pipeline is complete, it has yet to enter service. According to ExxonMobil Guyana, the pipeline remains pressurized with nitrogen and could begin delivering gas between December 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.

In the initial phase, the GTE system would be able to transport approximately 50 million cubic feet per day from the Liza Field, with the potential to add another 75 million cubic feet per day from the Hammerhead development at a later stage.
