Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ireland's state-owned power transmission operator, EirGrid plc (Dublin), and France's RTE (Paris) plan to build a 575-kilometer, high voltage direct-current (HVDC) electrical link. The Celtic Interconnector would be the first subsea interconnector between Ireland and France, and is aimed at ensuring energy security between the two countries.

The 1 billion-euro (US$1.16 billion) project would supply 700 megawatts through a 320-kilovolt transmission line connecting the La Martyre Substation in France with the Knockraha Substation in Ireland. About 500 kilometers of the line would be subsea, and is expected to be completed in 2026.
