Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fisterra Energy, a Mexico-based company majority owned by Blackstone Group LP (NYSE:BX) (New York, New York), is among the power-generation companies adding General Electric's (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) gas turbine technology to its facilities. Its Tierra Mojada natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) plant will be among more than $70 billion in natural gas-fired power-generation projects across North America to feature GE's turbines, about $21 billion of which are nearing or under construction.

Fisterra's $670 million Tierra Mojada NGCC plant in Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, is expected to generate about 875 megawatts (MW) from a pair of GE's 7HA.02 gas turbines, each with a capacity of 305 MW; a pair of heat-recovery steam generators (HRSG); and a 264-MW condensing steam turbine. The energy produced will fuel the state grid for Jalisco, the fourth-largest state for energy consumption in Mexico. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also in Mexico, ATCO Group (Calgary, Alberta) is in the advanced engineering stages for its $825 million NGCC plant in Tula De Allende, Hidalgo, which will use a pair of GE's combustion turbines, with duct-fired HRSGs, and one of its steam turbines to generate 638 MW. Most of the power produced will go toward Petroleos Mexicanos' (PEMEX) Miguel Hidalgo Refinery, with the remainder to be sold to the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE). For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the U.S., Florida Power & Light (FPL), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Incorporated (NSYE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida), began construction earlier this year on a $1.2 billion NGCC station near Vero Beach, Florida, that will feature three GE combustion turbines, each 350 MW, and a 429-MW steam turbine from Siemens. The 1,600-MW facility is set to be completed in the summer of 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Advanced Power AG's (Zug, Switzerland) $1.4 billion Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dover Plains, New York, also is nearing construction. The widely anticipated NGCC facility will generate 1,100 MW from four GE turbines: three combustion turbines, each with a capacity of 200 MW, and a 133.2-MW steam turbine. The plant is to be completed in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Canada, GE's turbines are the focus of a simple-cycle project: Kineticor Resource Corporation's (Calgary) $100 million Northern Sunrise Power Station in Peace River, Alberta. The 100-MW plant, expected to begin construction later this year, will feature a pair of GE's natural gas-fired and flare gas-fired combustion turbines. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also in Canada, GE Power is among the contractors on the Ministry of Energy's $12 million upgrade to Portlands Energy Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The Ministry plans to upgrade a pair of GE natural gas-fired combustion turbines, each with a capacity of 181 MW, by installing Advanced Gas Path components to improve efficiency and add about 10 MW. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
