Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Chemical Processing Industry for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, known as the DACH region, witnessed a sharp rise in grassroot capital investments in 2022, and 2023 is expected to see similar development.
With demand on the rise for sustainable and recyclable chemicals, German technology providers are taking steps to develop an advanced concept for the production of renewable chemicals. These chemicals are increasingly used in the mobility, power, industrial, chemical and other end-use industries.
Around 60% of the total investment in grassroot projects is slated toward the development of green hydrogen, with companies like HH2E AG (Hamburg, Germany), Hy2gen AG (Wiesbaden, Germany), RWE AG (Essen, Germany, SunFire GmbH (Dresden, Germany) and Inovyn Deutschland GmbH (Rheinberg, Germany) coming up with new plants.
Other investments include a US$700 million grassroot project planned to produce wood-based biochemicals, which is being constructed by UPM (Helsinki, Finland), and a new cyclic olefin copolymer plant planned by TOPAS Advanced Polymers GmbH (Raunheim, Germany), which is expected to come on stream by the middle of 2023.
