What are the key sticking points in Trump's Gaza peace plan? Negotiators from Israel and Hamas are heading to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to start indirect talks over an end to the Israel-Gaza war. It is the closest both sides have come to a deal since the war began two years ago
But Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan - which Israel has agreed to and Hamas has partly agreed to - is really just a framework, only a few pages long. And there are still major sticking points for both sides to resolve.

Drones, Democracy and the War in Ukraine Summary: The Ukraine war is now defined by two contests: a technological sprint and a political endurance race. Drones--cheap, mass-produced systems--have replaced traditional artillery as the primary battlefield killer, fundamentally changing the economics of war. Simultaneously, Ukraine faces fraying political unity and corruption concerns challenging its fragile democracy, while Russia's system is strained by massive spending to sustain the conflict. The war's outcome hinges on who wins the race to innovate and outlast the domestic political strain. The New York Times Ukraine Drone Strikes Taking a Toll on Russian Refining Capacity
Oil rises after OPEC+ hikes output less than expected Oil prices rose by about 1% on Monday after OPEC+'s planned production increase for November was more modest than expected, tempering some concerns about supply additions, though a soft outlook for demand is likely to cap near-term gains...
The modest production update also comes at a time of rising Venezuelan exports, the resumption of Kurdish oil flows via Turkey, and the presence of unsold Middle Eastern barrels for November loading, PVM Oil Associates analyst Tamas Varga said. Saudi Arabia kept unchanged the official selling price for the Arab Light crude it sells to Asia.

Japan stocks hit record highs as Sanae Takaichi's LDP victory drives yen past 150
European stocks were mixed on Monday as markets reacted to the shock resignation of France's Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu. The move has sparked fresh political chaos and follows the collapse of the previous government of François Bayrou. French banks were among those leading the losses, with Societe Generale, BNP Paribas and Credit Agricole all down more than 3%.

The yield on France's benchmark 10-year bond was last seen at 3.5719%, having previously rose to a 10-day high of 3.5990%, while the euro slipped to $1.1697, down around 0.4% for the session.
Japan's Nikkei 225 index jumped over 4% to hit a record high Monday after the country's ruling Liberal Democratic Party elected staunch conservative Sanae Takaichi as its new leader Saturday, positioning her to become the country's first female prime minister. The index closed 4.75% higher to end the trading day at 47,944.76. The surge was led by gains in real estate, technology and consumer cyclical stocks.

Natural Gas Price Outlook -- Natural Gas Continues to Show Strength The natural gas market has rallied again in the early hours of Monday, as we are trying to price in the idea of colder weather coming to the United States and Europe. At this point, we are looking at a "buy on the dips" scenario here.
The 50-day EMA is at the $3.11 level and is turning higher, so we'll see if this gap actually gets filled. Typically, they do, but they don't have to. Over the longer term, I anticipate that natural gas will go looking to the $4 level

China Urges Trump to Lift Security Curbs in Push for Deals China is pushing the Trump administration to roll back national-security restrictions on Chinese deals in the US, dangling the prospect of a massive investment package.
The Chinese proposals include lowering tariffs on imported inputs used by any Chinese factories built in the US, and represent a shift from trade talks that focused on purchases of US exports.
The proposals were raised during trade talks in Madrid last month, and the US has not yet ruled out the possibility of accepting China's offer, although questions remain around the size and structure of the potential investment.

Can AI Solve the Nuclear Fusion Energy Puzzle? Nuclear fusion holds the potential for clean, greenhouse gas-free baseload power, but challenges in controlling plasma have hindered its commercial viability. Recent breakthroughs, particularly with AI tools like Diag2Diag, are significantly advancing fusion development by improving plasma monitoring and control, specifically addressing issues like Edge Localized Mode (ELM).
Despite these advancements, commercial nuclear fusion remains decades away, leading some experts to question whether it's a realistic "silver bullet" solution for growing energy demands, especially from AI.

Week 09/29/25 - 10/06/25 Will Peace indeed come to the Middle East? as negotiators head to Egypt for talks to end the Israel-Gaza war. Economic markets are reacting to news out of France and Japan as leadership changes are taking place. France markets are roiling, whereas Japan's are jubilant. Turning to Mr. Oil Market, he is breathing a collective sigh of relief as OPEC+ agreed to a modest increase even though there are far too many barrels for suppressed demand in the marketplace. So, expect this sigh to be short-lived as the Bears take control of the market heading into winter. Things could become significantly bearish if more geopolitical risk premium is taken out of the price with a ceasefire leading to a peace agreement in the Middle East.
