Indonesia to Build Two Floating Solar Plants

Indonesia's state-owned PT PLN (Persero) has agreed to develop two floating solar-power projects with a total capacity of 200 megawatts

Released on Wednesday, December 28, 2022
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Indonesia's state-owned PT PLN (Persero) has agreed to develop two floating solar-power projects with a total capacity of 200 megawatts (MW). The Gajah Mungkur and Karangkates plants each will generate 100 MW and bolster the presence of renewables in Indonesia's energy mix.

Indonesia, which is targeting a 30.89% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, sees the solar projects as a possible substitute for the retirement of some of its coal-fired power plants. PT PLN (Persero) aims to complete the feasibility study this year.

Edwin Nugraha Putra, the director of PT PLN (Persero), is inviting investors to take part in these projects. The floating solar-power plants would be included in the Java-Bali power system and are expected to be operational by 2025.
