Model Context Protocol connectivity brings 40 years of human-verified energy and industrial intelligence directly into the AI tools professionals already use.

SUGAR LAND, Texas -- Industrial Info Resources (IIR), a leading provider of energy and industrial market intelligence built on primary research and human verification, just announced the launch of IIR Envoy™ MCP.

IIR Envoy™ is Industrial Info's Model Context Protocol server. It gives authorized AI assistants structured access to the same capital project, plant, offline-event, unit and equipment, and long-term service agreement coverage that powers IIR's Global Market Intelligence (GMI™) platform and IIR Energy services.

With IIR Envoy™ MCP, professionals can ask questions in natural language and receive source-cited answers drawn from IIR's live industrial data.

For example, an analyst can ask, "What refinery capacity is offline in Europe since this morning's weather event?" or "Which power plants near Houston have upcoming outages?" The user can then refine the results by geography, company, industry, project status, timing or asset type without starting a new search.

What Is IIR Envoy™ MCP?

A Model Context Protocol, commonly known as MCP, is an open standard that allows AI applications to connect to approved external tools and data sources. Without that connection, an AI assistant may rely on its training data, public web content or files manually provided by the user. IIR Envoy™ MCP allows compatible AI applications to retrieve relevant information directly from Industrial Info's structured database, says SMBtech, a B2B technology news publication.

With the launch of the MCP Connector, according to Ed Lewis, Founder and CEO of IIR, "It's not a question of if someone can get an answer; it's a question of whether the quality and validity of the answer is good enough to base major business decisions on."

Organizations can connect AI clients including Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible applications to IIR's global project, plant and asset intelligence. This gives subscribers another way to work with IIR data within the AI tools increasingly used for research, planning and market analysis.

MCP as an enterprise integration layer

The launch reflects the growing adoption of Model Context Protocol as a way for data providers to connect their products to AI assistants. MCP provides a standardized interface that allows an AI model to call out to an external data source during a conversation, retrieve structured information and incorporate it into its response.

For data companies like IIR, MCP offers a distribution channel that meets customers where they are already working, explains SMBtech. Rather than requiring users to log into a separate platform, the data travels to the AI client the user has open on their desktop.

IIR Envoy MCP is available only to existing Industrial Info and IIR Energy subscribers, meaning the underlying data remains behind a commercial access layer even as it can be queried through third-party AI interfaces.

"IIR's pitch for the product centers on the provenance of the data behind the answers. The company, which has operated for more than 40 years, builds its database through primary research conducted by staff who contact plant operators directly by phone to verify information," explains SMBtech.

"The product is aimed at professionals in energy, power, oil and gas, chemicals and heavy industrial sectors who need to make decisions based on current plant, project, unit and offline event data," SMBtech continues. "Typical use cases include market analysts researching capacity changes, business development teams identifying upcoming projects, risk managers tracking outages and supply chain professionals monitoring operational status across regions."

Entering the Answer Age

The launch of IIR Envoy™ MCP reflects a broader shift in how businesses interact with information.

The Information Age expanded access to data. The Knowledge Age introduced platforms and analytical tools that helped professionals interpret that information. Artificial intelligence is now moving users toward what Ed Lewis calls the Answer Age.

In the Answer Age, users increasingly expect to ask a direct question and receive a specific, useful response. The challenge is no longer simply finding an answer. It is determining whether the information behind that answer is current, verified and reliable enough to support a business decision.

"IIR Envoy™ MCP was built for that shift, delivering phone-verified, constantly updated industrial intelligence directly into the AI tools professionals already use, so every answer is backed by primary research," said Lewis.

AI can produce a clear, seemingly confident response within seconds. However, that response may still rely on outdated records, unverified claims or information repeated across multiple websites from the same original source.

For industrial organizations making decisions about capital investment, plant operations, procurement, market entry, sales strategy or supply chains, a plausible answer is not always a dependable answer.

The Research Behind the Answer

Trusted data starts with people. Every record IIR delivers is verified by researchers who contact plant operators directly. That provenance carries through every response generated by IIR Envoy™ MCP, ensuring the intelligence behind critical decisions is not scraped, inferred or hallucinated. It is confirmed through primary research.

IIR Envoy™ MCP supports questions on capital projects and spending activity, plants and industrial equipment, planned and unplanned offline events, companies and ownership, and industrial activity across markets and geographies, with IIR's researched records as the foundation and the AI assistant as the interface.

Human Research and AI Working Together

IIR Envoy™ MCP does not replace Industrial Info's research platforms or the judgment of experienced professionals. It is a more direct way to access relevant information and continue an analysis through follow-up questions. A sales professional could narrow planned projects by industry, value or owner. An equipment supplier could research plants with upcoming outages. A commodity trader could evaluate the capacity affected by an unexpected event and explore related assets.

"AI is changing how industrial organizations make decisions, but AI is only as good as the data behind it," continues Ed Lewis. "When you combine IIR Envoy™ MCP with 40 years of trusted, phone-verified energy and industrial intelligence, AI becomes a decision-making tool organizations can trust, empowering them to move faster with greater confidence because every answer is backed by primary research, not scraped or inferred information."

As AI becomes more common in industrial research and decision-making, the quality of the connected data will determine the difference between a general response and an answer an organization can act on.
