With its 1,448-kilometer coastline and untapped offshore wind power potential, Ireland has seen progress on some of its windfarm projects. The Oriel windfarm (which Industrial Info has been tracking since 2009), located in the Irish Sea off the coast of Dundalk, has a potential capacity of up to 330 megawatts. It is estimated that Ireland has a potential offshore wind project pipeline of up to 1 gigawatt (GW) by 2020 and a further 3 GW by 2030, but the Irish government needs to get the wind in its sails to tap the unused potential.
