Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Two major North American windfarm projects have begun commercial operations so far in July: Invenergy LLC's (Chicago, Illinois) Bishop Hill Windfarm in Henry County, Illinois, and Enel Green Power North America's (Andover, Massachusetts) Rocky Ridge Windfarm in Kiowa County, Oklahoma.
Construction on the 200-megawatt (MW) Bishop Hill windfarm began in late 2010, and Invenergy announced that the windfarm had begun commercial operations on July 9. Construction on an 81-MW Phase II addition began construction last year and was sold to Berkshire Hathaway's (NYSE:BRK.A) MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company (Des Moines, Iowa). The addition is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Industrial Info is tracking 21 wind power projects valued at more than $7 billion that are expected to be completed by the end of this quarter. While a few of these will almost certainly be delayed, most should be wrapped up not too long after the end of September.

One of the projects driving the total investment in wind to these heights is the massive 845-MW Shepherds Flat Windfarm in Gilliam and Morrow counties in Oregon. The windfarm includes 338 GE wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2.5 MW. D.H. Blattner & Sons Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is acting as general contractor on the projects, the third and final phase of which is expected to be completed in August. Construction on the windfarm began in mid-2010.
