MPLX to Buy Northwind Midstream for $2.38 Billion
- MPLX LP (Findlay, Ohio) said on Thursday it will acquire Northwind Midstream (Houston, Texas) for $2.38 billion in cash to expand its sour gas gathering and processing footprint in the Permian Basin, as producers ramp up drilling in New Mexico. Northwind operates in Lea County, New Mexico, with a network spanning more than 200 miles of pipeline and covering over 200,000 dedicated acres. An ongoing expansion is expected to increase Northwind's treating capacity to 440 million cubic feet per day by the second half of 2026. EIA: U.S. Oil Output Hits Record in May
- U.S. crude oil production rose to a record 13.49 million barrels per day (BBL/d) in May, even as oversupply concerns pushed prices for the commodity to four-year lows, data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed on Thursday. U.S. crude output was up 24,000 BBL/d in May from the prior record of 13.46 million BBL/d in April, which was the previous record, the EIA data showed. (Reuters)

Sempra, Japan's JERA Enter 20-Year LNG Supply Deal
- Sempra Energy (San Diego, California) will supply 1.5 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year to Japan's biggest power generator, JERA (Tokyo), in a 20-year deal, it said on Thursday. The LNG would be supplied from Sempra's Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 development project in Texas, it added.
