Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $3.4 billion of projects involving various industrial sectors that are under construction in Nevada. Thanks to some large solar projects, the Power Industry leads the state in terms of overall project value.
Among the biggest solar projects in Nevada is Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners' (New York, New York) Gemini solar project near Las Vegas. The first phase of construction kicked off last year and entails utilizing an estimated 1.15 million solar modules to achieve nameplate generation of 440 megawatts (MW). Alongside the initial solar development, a 380-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) is being constructed to provide power in times of high demand or when the sun isn't shining. This initial phase of construction is expected to be completed toward the end of this year, after which construction of a second phase, adding another 250 MW of generation, will begin, bringing the facility's total output to nearly 700 MW. Should this second phase of construction proceed as planned, it should be completed in 2025. Another solar project in the Las Vegas area is NV Energy Incorporated's (Las Vegas) Dry Lake solar facility, which also will feature BESS capabilities. The solar portion of the facility will use approximately 375,000 thin-film solar modules manufactured by First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) to generate 150 MW. The BESS facility will be able to supply 100 megawatt-hours of energy when needed. General contractor DEPCOM Power Incorporated (Scottsdale, Arizona) is expected to wrap up the project early next year. Subscribers can click here for more details.
The Industrial Manufacturing Industry ranks second in Nevada in terms of current project spending. The largest of these is Novva Data Centers' (West Jordan, Utah) grassroot data center in North Las Vegas. Construction on the 275,000-square-foot data center kicked off in 2021 and is approaching completion. The data center will cater to the growing demand for colocation data services in the region. In more traditional manufacturing sectors, Crown Holdings Incorporated (NYSE:CCK) (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is underway with construction on a grassroot aluminum can manufacturing plant in Mesquite, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The facility will include 342,000 square feet of manufacturing space, more than 8,000 square feet of storage space and six truck-loading docks. Construction is expected to be completed early next year. Subscribers can click here for more information on the project.
Another notable Nevada project that is in the process of wrapping up is The Kroger Company's (NYSE:KR) (Cincinnati, Ohio) grassroot grocery distribution center in North Las Vegas. The new 885,000-square-foot grocery warehouse will feature the latest in automation technology and conveyance systems to enhance operations.
