The investment in clean energy technologies in Australia has been growing, mostly attributed to wind and solar energy technologies. However, according to a recent report from Australian National University, pumped hydro energy storage could become the next big thing, with 22,000 potential sites identified across the continent. The real question is to know the financial viability of these sites, which is dependent on various factors. Snowy Hydro is currently working on a $4 billion pumped hydro project in New South Wales. Genex Power's 250-megawatt Kidston project could commence construction in the next six months.
