Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The New England market region is expecting an influx of Power Industry project starts in the second quarter of this year. While many of the high-probability (81-99% chance of moving forward) and medium-probability (70%-80% chance) projects are smaller in generating capacity, the total projects being tracked by Industrial Info in the region have a combined total investment value of approximately $2 billion.

Like other parts of the country, solar power plays a strong role in the region's upcoming power projects. Such projects include NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) Constitution solar plant near Plainfield, Connecticut, which will use more than 68,200 solar modules to generate 20 megawatts (MW). Tetra Tech Incorporated (NASDAQ:TTEK) (Pasadena, California) is acting as the consultant on the project, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Other solar projects include NextEra's Davenport facility near Brandon, Vermont, which will use approximately 55,000 solar modules on a fixed-tilt racking system to generate 15 MW. Construction is set to be completed by the end of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Power transmission and distribution projects also play a role in the region's upcoming project activity. Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) (Hartford, Connecticut) plans to kick off its Andrew Square-Dewar Street transmission project in Boston, Massachusetts, in the upcoming quarter. Eversource will construct 2.1 miles of 115-kilovolt underground transmission line between two existing substations. Construction is set to wrap up in the summer of 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. As part of the project, Eversource will be upgrading the Andrew Square substation by adding a hybrid air-insulated switchgear module and relay and control houses. This part of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are becoming increasingly prevalent throughout the U.S., and Eversource plans to construct a 4.8-MW BESS unit addition in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The project is the second phase a multiphase project to provide backup power to the region. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Although natural gas is becoming less common in grassroot projects in the U.S., some such projects remain on the books. Although classified by Industrial Info as having a low probability (0-69% chance) of moving forward as planned, NTE Energy (St. Augustine, Florida) has had the Killingly Energy Center project in Connecticut in development for a number of years. If its built, the facility would generate 600 MW. Gemma Power Systems LLC (Glastonbury, Connecticut) has been selected to provide engineering, procurement and construction on the project, which, if it moves forward, could be completed in 2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
