Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NextEra Energy Transmission New York, part of NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida), plans to start construction in two and a half years on the $1.6 billion AC Energy Highway Project in New York to alleviate congestion across chronically congested high-voltage interfaces.

The project includes two segments. The first 91-mile segment will start in Oneida County and end in Albany County. The second 51-mile segment will start in Rensselaer County and end in Duchess County. This segment also will have 11 miles of rebuilt 138-kilovolt (kV) line in Orange County.

The first segment consists of a 345-kV transmission line from the Marcy Substation to the New Scotland Substation on existing right-of-way. It also includes two 230-kV lines from the Princetown Substation to the Rotterdam Substation, and upgrades to all four substations.

The second segment consists of upgrading 10 substations and constructing a total of 62 miles of transmission line. A new 345-kV transmission line will start at the Knickerbocker Substation and end at the Pleasant Valley Substation, and will include a double 115-kV circuit on the same right-of-way.

The projects will include constructing and clearing right-of-ways for 345-kV transmission lines, a 230-kV transmission line and a 115-kV transmission line, access roads and tie lines, temporary construction offices and accommodations for construction personnel that will be required during the construction.

According to its developers, the project will provide a clean, resilient and affordable energy system for New Yorkers across Oneida County through Albany County, Rensselaer County through Duchess County, and Orange County.

Construction is expected to start in mid-2020 and be completed by the end of 2021.
