Eight Mining Projects in 2026

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that it expects eight mining projects worth US$7.61 billion to begin construction in 2026. The eight projects are in advanced feasibility and engineering stages, according to vice minister Carlos Talavera.

The eight mining projects are distributed across the country and include:

Among these, the Corani, Zafranal and Pampa de Pongo projects are greenfield developments, while the remaining projects are brownfield. Together, they encompass three copper projects, two silver projects, and one project for tin, iron ore and zinc.

"This year, the start of eight mining projects is planned, representing an approximate investment of US$7.619 billion, which marks a new stage of dynamism for the sector, with relevant impacts on production, employment, production chains and tax collection," said Talavera.

Peru is a key mining destination for companies, especially for those developing copper assets. The nation is one of the world's three largest copper producers and has significant mineral resources, including gold and silver.

Industrial Info is currently tracking 643 mining-related projects in Peru worth US$50.32 billion.

Peru's Mine Production

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Peru produced 2.296 million tons of copper between January and October 2025, about 3% more than in 2024. Gold volumes stood at 90.52 million grams during that same period, flat from 2024.

The biggest winners in the first 10 months of last year, according to the latest available data, were manganese, with output of 31,500 tons, up 93.2% year on year, and zinc, at 1.25 million tons, up 18.8% from 2024.

By November last year, mining companies had invested US$5.13 billion, 21.1% more than in 2024.

"We are working on a project with the World Bank regarding a Ventanilla Unica for Mining, in order to streamline permitting and achieve a more agile and competitive government. We need to attract investment and make processes more efficient," mentioned Luis Bravo, Minister of Energy and Mines.

New Government

The new administration of Jose Jeri was sworn in in October, after the destitution of former President Dina Boluarte. Jeri has vowed to remain in power until July this year, following the presidential elections. In the last ten years, Peru has had seven presidents.

Key Takeaways
  • Peru expects eight mining projects to begin construction this year, worth US$7.6 billion.
  • Three of the projects are greenfield, and five are brownfield.
  • Peru's copper production reached 2.29 million tons by October 2025.
