U.S., Canadian Natural Gas Prices Soar During Arctic Freeze - Natural gas prices across North America soared on Monday as homes and businesses cranked up their heaters to escape a blast of arctic air and snow moving from Canada to the U.S. Midwest. High temperatures in Chicago were expected to remain below freezing from February 5-22, AccuWeather said. The normal high in the city at this time of year is 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Next-day gas for Monday rose to its highest since December 2018 at the Waha hub in the Permian Basin in Texas. Spot prices in other regions, meanwhile, soared to their highest since March 2019, including the AECO hub in Alberta, Dominion South in southwest Pennsylvania, Chicago and the Henry Hub benchmark in Louisiana. Nord Stream 2's Construction in Danish Waters Could Be Finished in April - Construction of the Nord Stream 2 undersea gas pipeline from Russia to Germany in Danish waters is scheduled for completion by the end of April, the Danish Maritime Authority said on Monday. Construction had been suspended in December 2019 after the United States announced its sanctions against the project, but the German government stood by it, and work has resumed. The pipeline is mostly complete, but around 120 kilometers (km) is left to be laid in Danish waters as well as almost 30 km in German waters, before it makes landfall at the northern German coastal town of Lubmin.
