Planned maintenance at natural gas plants leads in both the number and overall value of projects, led by the West Coast and Great Lakes regions. In the West Coast region, Oregon and Washington both show a high amount of upcoming natural gas maintenance, such as the planned outage for Unit 1 at the Klamath Falls combined-cycle plant in Oregon, owned by Iberdrola SA (Bilbao, Spain), which is expected to last 35 days over April and May. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for the detailed report.
Natural gas maintenance projects in the Great Lakes region include Arclight Capital Holdings LLC's (Boston, Massachusetts) planned maintenance on the 392-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 at the New Covert Generating Station in Covert, Michigan. The outage is expected to last about 35 days over April and May. Subscribers can click here for the report.
While planned nuclear projects are much fewer in number, they still represent a significant amount of planned spending, coming in at about $270 million. Among the upcoming projects is Duke Energy Corporation's (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) planned refueling outage for its 1,158-MW Unit 1 at the McGuire Nuclear Power Station in Huntersville, North Carolina. The outage is expected to last about 25 days. Subscribers can click here for the report.
Other planned nuclear maintenance includes Southern Company's (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia) refueling outage at Unit 2 of the Farley Nuclear Plant in Columbia, Alabama, and a refueling outage at Vistra Corporation's (NYSE:VST) (Irving, Texas) Unit 1 at its facility in Glen Rose, Texas. Rounding out the top three fuel types is coal, with the Midwest region having the most planned maintenance projects for this fuel type. One of the lengthier planned coal outages, coming in at more than 60 days, is for major inspection and repairs at the 720-MW Unit 3 at Evergy Incorporated's (NYSE:EVRG) (Kansas City, Missouri) Jeffrey Energy Center in Saint Marys, Kansas, about 25 miles northwest of Topeka. The outage is expected to last into early June. Subscribers can click here for the report.
