LNG
U.S. Sets LNG Export Record Amid Energy Crisis
- U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose to an all time high in March as plants ran above nameplate capacity and new units started up, preliminary data from financial firm LSEG showed. Exports in March climbed to 11.7 million metric tons, up from 9.94 million tons in February, and surpassed the previous monthly record of 11.5 million tons in December, the data showed. Shipments to Asia more than doubled from the previous month amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that has roiled energy markets and taken nearly 20% of global LNG supply offline, forcing customers who depended on cargoes that transited the Strait of Hormuz to try to find alternatives. U.S. to Loan Up to 10 Million Barrels of Oil from Bryan Mound SPR Site
- The U.S. Department of Energy said on Wednesday that it would loan up to 10 million barrels of crude oil from the Bryan Mound strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) site in Texas, and will accept proposals from companies until April 6. The Energy Department already has lent 45.2 million barrels of crude oil from the reserve in a first release in March as part of an agreement with 32 countries in the International Energy Agency (IEA) to release 400 million barrels of oil from reserves. Ultimately, the U.S. aims to lend 172 million barrels for delivery throughout this year and into next.
