The higher demand is a result of increased motor vehicle production; upgrades to aging domestic transmission and distribution networks; and the growing popularity among consumers for fiber-optic cables. General Cable Corporation's (NYSE:BGC) (Highland Heights, Kentucky) $18 million cable wire-manufacturing plant expansion in Marion, Indiana, includes the construction of a 30,000-square-foot building at the 745,000-square-foot facility, and the installation of production lines and wire-drawing machines. Prysmian Cable and Systems USA LLC's (Claremont, North Carolina) $20 million renovation of a fiber-optic cable-manufacturing plant in Claremont, North Carolina, entails overhauling the 1.09 million-square-foot facility and installing a vertical continuous vulcanization (VCV) production line. Advanced Digital Cable Incorporated (Blairsville, Georgia) is at work on a $15 million expansion at a cable and wire-manufacturing plant in Blairsville, Georgia. Construction of a 100,000-square-foot building began this summer and is expected to be completed by early 2018.
