Wartsila has begun preliminary work on the construction of a 378-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power plant in El Salvador.

The facility, owned by Energia del Pacifico (EDP) (a joint-venture between Invenergy LLC and local private utility Quantum Energy S.A DE C.V) will employ 19 Wartsila 18V50SG internal combustion engines generator sets (each capable of 18.45 MW), with an attached heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) driving a single 30-MW steam turbine using Flexicycle technology. It will use natural gas from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facility being developed by EDP close to the plant.
