U.K. Sees Electricity as Low-Carbon Option for Offshore

April 1, 2024--Written by Daniel Graeber for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Electrification of offshore rigs could result in as much as 2 million metric tons in emissions reductions by the end of the decade, a British regulator said.

The British government's North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) rolled out various decarbonization scenarios for the offshore oil and gas sector. Under a best-case scenario, the NSTA found that electrification of offshore platforms could save between 1 million and 2 million metric tons of emissions every year, the equivalent of removing 1 million cars off the road.
