Texas Legislative Efforts to Throttle Renewables Fail, For Now

June 5, 2025--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Renewable energy advocates in Texas breathed a sigh of relief after the state legislature adjourned June 2 before four bills hostile to wind and solar energy could be considered by the state House of Representatives. But those bills could come back in the next legislative session, which begins in 2027.

During the just-concluded session, the Texas Senate passed four bills--S.B. 383, S.B. 388, S.B. 715 and S.B. 819--that would have made it harder and more expensive to build new renewable electric generation in the state. The measures also would have driven up the cost of operating existing renewable power-generation facilities.
