Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ventika S.A. de CV (Monterrey, Mexico) plans to construct a 126-megawatt (MW) windfarm in the General Bravo municipality, in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The power station, which is the second phase of the Ventika project, is called the Ventika II Windfarm power station. The total estimated value of the investment is about $220 million.
Ventika SA de CV is a joint venture between Cemex Mexico S.A. de CV (Monterrey) and CO2 Global Solutions International S.A. (Madrid, Spain).
Acciona Energia Mexico S de RL de CV (Mexico, DF) has been chosen as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, which will consist of 84 Acciona AW-1500 wind-turbine generator sets of 1.5 MW each. When completed, the windfarm will provide electricity for thousands of homes and businesses. It will be built on land that is not being currently used, and will harness winds from one of the windiest areas near the General Bravo municipality.
The project supports growing efforts by Mexico to use wind resources of the General Bravo municipality. About 75% of Mexico's 60 gigawatts (GW) of total installed electricity generation capacity currently come from fossil fuels. The Ventika II project also will help improve the local road system near the site, and will serve about 200 miles of the Nuevo Leon border region, which includes Monterrey. Preparation and construction will generate more than 500 jobs, and 20 permanent jobs will be created for operation and maintenance services.
Construction of the windfarm is slated to begin by the end of 2014, and it is scheduled to begin full operations by mid-2015.
