Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Clean Line Energy Partners' (Houston, Texas) Plains & Eastern Transmission Line will be able to move 3,500 megawatts (MW) of power generated from windfarms through 700 miles of 600-kilovolt (kV), high-voltage, direct-current (HVDC) line. The $2 billion transmission line will run from Oklahoma through Arkansas and Tennessee.
The project includes construction of a converter station in Oklahoma and Tennessee each, and an intermediate station in Arkansas, to interconnect with Entergy Corporation's (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana) transmission system. In Tennessee, the line is expected to connect with the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) (Knoxville, Tennessee) power grid, but Clean Line Energy does not yet have an agreement with the TVA.
Clean Line Energy is working with Power Engineers (Meridian, Idaho) on the line design. The project, in its early phase, is undergoing an environmental impact study. A draft environmental impact study is expected to be released this fall.
Fluor Enterprises Incorporated (NYSE:FLR) (Greenville, South Carolina) is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. Fluor also will be working with Pike Electric (Portland, Oregon). Construction is expected to start no earlier than 2016, with completion in 2019.
