Construction Begins on Mississippi's Largest Solar Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction of Mississippi's largest solar facility recently got under way in Sumrall, Lamar County, and is expected to be completed by December of this year. The 52-megawatt (MW) project, owned by Origis Energy (Miami, Florida), has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Mississippi Power.

The project is located on more than 500 acres and will use a fixed-tilt ground mounting solar system, which features more than 200,000 solar panels to generate renewable energy enough to power approximately 8,000 homes. The project site is also close to an electrical interconnection.

This project marks a significant achievement for the state of Mississippi as the Southeastern region looks to diversify its generation portfolio. The project will create approximately 100 jobs during construction.
