Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $5.32 billion in U.S. wind power projects that are planned to kick off in the fourth quarter of 2017. Wind energy producers are eager to begin construction on projects this year in order to receive 80% of the 2.3-cents-per-kilowatt-hour production tax credit before it steps down to 60% for projects started in 2018. The Southwest region, with $2.28 billion in planned fourth-quarter projects starts, leads the country in terms of value, followed by the Midwest region, with $1.88 billion in planned starts.

One of the largest wind projects planned to kick off in the fourth quarter is Infinity Renewables' (Santa Barbara, California) planned Solomon Forks Windfarm near Colby, Kansas. The project will use 184 2.5-megawatt (MW) wind turbine-generators for a total generating capacity of 460 MW. Construction on the estimated $900 million project is set to be finished before the end of next year. The project recently signed a power purchase agreement with Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) for 100 MW of power to operate the retail giant's 150 stores in the region. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Texas, five wind projects contribute $1.45 billion toward the state's planned fourth-quarter power project starts. Among these is Tahoka Wind LLC's (Chicago, Illinois) planned 300-MW windfarm near Tohoka, Texas, about 30 miles south of Lubbock. The project will use 120 2.5-MW wind turbine-generator sets. Construction is planned to kick off before the end of this year and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018. Tahoka Wind LLC is a subsidiary of Lincoln Clean Energy LLC (Chicago). For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also in Texas is Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' (Copenhagen, Denmark) 150-MW Blue Cloud Windfarm near Muleshoe. The project will use Vestas wind turbine-generators and is planned to kick off construction early in the fourth quarter. Black & McDonald (Kansas City, Missouri) are performing engineering, procurement and construction on the project, which is planned to be completed next summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In the Great Lakes region, Invenergy LLC (Chicago) plans to begin construction of the Hardin County Windfarm near Dunkirk, Ohio. The project will use 118 2.3-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) wind turbine-generators. The project is in the preliminary engineering stage, but is set to kick off early next quarter, taking a little more than a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
