Alternative Liquid Fuels Expects to Begin Biodiesel Production this Month

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held biodiesel start-up Alternative Liquid Fuel Industries LLC (McArthur, Ohio) expects biodiesel to begin flowing from its new plant in McArthur this month. The company is waiting on the final inspection from the fire marshal in about 10 days, and once the approval is given, the company will begin producing small batches of the renewable fuel.

Once batches are concocted into an ASTM standard, commercial production will begin. The plant is designed to produce 4.5 million gallons of biodiesel annually and will utilize bacon fat as feedstock. Construction started about a year ago and uses BioKing's (The Netherlands) process technology.

With the McArthur plant ready to come online the company is now investigating a location in southern Ohio in Gallia County as the location for a second plant. This facility will utilize algae as the primary feedstock and have a production capacity from 10 million to 15 million gallons per year. Construction is not expected to begin until late 2008.

Alternative Liquid joins American Ag Fuels (Defiance, Ohio) and JatroDiesel as the only three operating biodiesel plants in the state. Additional plants are under construction in Toledo, Miamisburg, Cleveland and Cincinnati, and an additional plant is expected to be built in Marion. Once all current projects on the board are built, Ohio will grow its capacity of biodiesel production to more than 75 million gallons annually.
