Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The coordination meeting between China Huaneng Group (Beijing) and the government of Yueyang City for China Huaneng Group's 2,000-megawatt (MW), grassroot, coal-fired power plant in Yueyang was held in Yueyang on May 14, 2012, according to an announcement from the government of Yueyang City on May 17.
During the meeting, Huaneng Group Hunan Branch described the progress made on the preparation work for the project. China Huaneng Group and the government of Yueyang City reached an agreement to build Yueyang into an energy base in northern Hunan during the meeting held in Beijing on February 7, 2012, between Huang Lanxiang, the party secretary for Yueyang, and Liu Guoyue, the general manager of Huaneng International Power Company Limited (SHA:600011) (Beijing). After three months of hard work, Huaneng Hunan has preliminarily selected five alternative sites for the project. Preparation of the site study report is expected to be completed in the end of May 2012, and it then will be submitted to the headquarters for approval.
Huaneng Group, via its listed flagship Huaneng International, owns the largest coal-fired power plant in Yueyang. Huaneng Yueyang Power Plant is in the Chenglingji Port Area of Yueyang City. After three phases of construction, the power plant now has a total installed capacity of 2,525 MW, including two 362.5-MW, coal-fired units of Phase I imported from the U.K. that were commissioned in September and December 1991, respectively; two 300-MW, Chinese-made, subcritical, coal-fired units of Phase II commissioned in March and June 2006, respectively; and two 600-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units of Phase III. Of the two units in Phase III, the first was commissioned in January 2011 and the second unit will be commissioned in 2012.
Construction of the new project will help to achieve the objective of building Yueyang into an energy base in northern Hunan. Among the leaders and representatives from various departments of Yueyang City who attended the meeting were Zhang Jianlin, the general manager of China Huaneng Group Hunan Branch, and Li Zhijian, the deputy major of Yueyang City, according to the announcement.
