Demand Increases for Sheet Metal Industry in the United States

According to Kaempf & Harris Sheet Metal (Frederick, Maryland), jobs in the sheet metal sector are projected to grow 7% between 2014 and 2024, with 10% of sheet metal workers earning at least $80,000 annually. This means there will be about 9,400 jobs in the sector opening in the next decade. The best job opportunities are arising from apprenticeship training and welding certifications. In Hartford, Wisconsin, an $8.5 million fabricated metal products manufacturing plant expansion includes constructing a 20,250-square-foot building expansion with brake presses, pem insertion machines, extruders, tube benders and lasers. Construction will kick off this fall and is anticipated to be completed in early 2017. Also, in Hartford, a $3 million dollar sheet metal fabrication plant expansion includes a 24,900-square-foot building, with construction anticipated to begin in early 2017 and be completed in fall 2017.

The $10 million Milwaukee, Wisconsin, fabricated metal enclosure manufacturing plant equipment addition includes installing new laser cutting equipment and a dust-collection system. Construction is anticipated to begin late this year and is expected to be completed in late summer 2017.

In Mason, Michigan, a $1 million custom metal fabrication plant addition includes a 7,650-square-foot building addition with hydroforming presses. Construction is anticipated to begin in early spring 2017, with completion in fall 2017.

In Kentucky, a new $15.5 million Bowling Green sheet metal fabrication plant will include a 78,750-square-foot facility and a slitting line to allow the company to better serve customers in the region. Construction kicked off this fall and is anticipated for completion in spring of 2017.
