IIR Top Chemical Processing News Today

Formosa Plastics is on schedule to complete planned maintenance on the 1.8 billion-pound-per-year Olefins 2 ethylene unit at its plant in Point Comfort, Texas.

Formosa Plastics is on schedule to complete planned maintenance on the 1.8 billion-pound-per-year Olefins 2 ethylene unit at its plant in Point Comfort, Texas. The unit went offline on February 15 in preparation for Winter Storm Uri, and remained offline to complete a roughly six-month planned turnaround. Current expectations are to attempt a restart at the end of August.

ExxonMobil Chemical is on schedule to perform a 70-day planned turnaround of the main train ethylene unit, which includes the approximately 1 billion-pound-per-year ECLA-W and 1 billion-pound-per-year OLA-2x units, to begin the third week of September, at its Baton Rouge, Louisiana, plant. The restart is expected in early December.

Altopro, on August 18, shut down its 48.3 million-pound-per-year Polypropylene Resins 1 and 48.3 million-pound-per-year Polypropylene Resins II units in Irapuato, Mexico. The units will restart August 20.

International
Chiba Chemicals Manufacturing LLP, a joint venture with Mitsui Chemical Incorporated and Idemitsu Kosan Company Limited, was forced to shut down the approximately 1.2 billion-pound-per-year ethylene unit, due to a mechanical issue, on August 5 at its Ichihara Chiba Chemical Complex in Japan. Expectations are to complete repairs and resume normal operations by August 21.

Qatar Chemical Company Limited is planning a 35-day maintenance turnaround of the 1.1 billion-pound-per-year ethylene unit, which is scheduled to begin February 14, 2022, at its Umm Sa'id Chemical Complex in Qatar. Expectations are to complete repairs and restart the unit by March 20, 2022.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat OOO, on August 16, restarted the 832 million-pound-per-year ethylene unit at its chemical complex in Salavat, Russia. The 269 million-pound-per-year High-Density Polyethylene Resins (HDPE) Unit and the 99 million-pound-per-year Low-Density Polyethylene Resins (HDPE) Unit restarted on August 13.
