Just like most countries globally, 2020 has been very challenging for Indonesia as they registered zero additional capacity of geothermal power contribution for the first time since 2014. Due to the pandemic, the geothermal power plant projects that had a target of commissioning in 2020 were pushed back to 2021.
However, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that a significant increase in geothermal capacity will occur in 2021, estimated to add around 196 megawatts (MW).
Projects that are expected to be completed and commissioned include PLTP Rantau Dedap (90 MW), PLTP Sorik Marapi Unit 2 (45 MW), PLTP Sokoria Unit 1 (of 5 MW), PLTP Small Scale Dieng (10 MW) and PLTP Sorik Marapi 3 (50 MW).
Industrial Info is tracking 285 geothermal projects in Indonesia, worth $30.7 billion. However, of these projects, 243 are rated as having a low probability of moving forward as scheduled.Click here for a list.
