The Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry accounts for more than 40% of the total investment value and the largest number of projects to involve Whiting-Turner, the largest of which is the University of Kentucky's (Lexington, Kentucky) $265 million scientific research building addition in Lexington, Kentucky. Whiting-Turner is serving as general contractor on the project, which the university said will research cancer, heart and pulmonary disease, strokes and other preventable illnesses. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Although the Power Industry claims nearly 40% of the $4 billion worth of planned projects, it's all attributed to a single project: Solar Wind Energy Tower Incorporated's (Annapolis, Maryland) $1.55 billion San Luis Wind Energy Tower in San Luis, Arizona. After several years in the early planning phases, Solar Wind Energy Tower closed its initial investment in the tower in the fourth quarter of 2015 by selling off its investment in subsidiary Arizona Green Power LLC. Whiting-Turner is performing engineering services for the project. For more information, including major components, projected capacities and contractor contact information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, Whiting-Turner is involved in several distribution center projects, the largest being FedEx Corporation's (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee) $199 million parcel-sorting hub expansion in Independence, Kentucky. FedEx plans to nearly double the size of its current facility, on which Whiting-Turner is serving as general contractor. According to Memphis Business Journal, FedEx says it's necessary to manage a projected increase in package volume, given that the current hub is reaching capacity. For more information, including construction schedules and environmental requirements, see Industrial Info's project report.
Whiting-Turner also handles distribution center projects in the Food & Beverage Industry, including Lidl Dienstleistung GmbH & Company's (Lidl) (Neckarsulm, Germany) $125 million grocery distribution center in Mebane, North Carolina. Lidl wants to boost its storage and distribution of grocery products to regional stores, including two new stores in Burlington, North Carolina. Whiting-Turner is performing design-build services. For more information, including construction schedules and environmental requirements, see Industrial Info's project report.
The six other highest-valued projects to involve Whiting-Turner are:
