U.S. DOE Cancels $3.7 Billion in CCS, Decarbonization Project Grants

Abstract: June 5, 2025--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Last week, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the cancellation of 24 project awards worth $3.7 billion, which primarily included funding for carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and decarbonization initiatives.

Noting that 16 of the 24 awards were signed between Election Day and January 20 (the start of the second Trump administration), the DOE said it found that these projects "failed to advance the energy needs of the American people, were not economically viable and would not generate a positive return on investment of taxpayer dollars."
