Greater Houston Area Sees $3.6 Billion in Planned Fourth-Quarter Project Kickoffs

SUGAR LAND--September 24, 2020--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking 64 projects, worth $3.61 billion, that are scheduled for kickoff in the fourth quarter in the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of Texas. The area includes Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller counties. More than half of the spend is attributed to the Chemical Processing and Industrial Manufacturing industries.

Galveston County leads the area, also known as Greater Houston, in total investment value (TIV) for planned fourth-quarter kickoffs, with $1.8 billion worth of projects. About half of that is attributed to Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC's (GCA) (Texas City, Texas) $950 million brownfield ammonia plant in Texas City. Closer to the coast, Texas International Terminals (Galveston, Texas) is looking to begin construction in October on tank farm additions at its liquid and bulk dry terminal in Galveston. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report and plant report.

Harris County is far and away the leader in the number planned fourth-quarter kickoffs, with 41, of which the largest investment belongs to the City of Houston's Houston Airport System and a modernization of Terminal A at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The $196 million project is set to replace the terminal's existing building management system. With a medium probability (70-80%) of moving forward according to Industrial Info's project database, kickoff is scheduled for December, with completion in April 2023. Also in Harris County, the Port of Houston Authority is looking toward kickoff in October of a container terminal expansion in Seabrook, Texas. The new wharf is expected to provide a 20% increase in berth space, to handle growing cargo volumes. Completion is scheduled for September 2021. Fort Bend County is home to Black & Veatch (Overland Park, Kansas) subsidiary Diode Ventures LLC's grassroot, 200-megawatt solar wind farm. The facility will be constructed on 1,800 acres and will use 700,000 thin-film photovoltaic solar panels. Construction is expected to begin in November and be completed by December 2021.
