With 39 projects worth nearly $2.9 billion, the industry is head and shoulders above the 11 other industries that have kickoffs in Tennessee for that quarter. With a total of 84 projects worth $3.08 billion, the state also has substantial activity in terms of project spending in the Chemical Processing and Alternative Fuel industries.

The largest project in Tennessee's Industrial Manufacturing Industry is the $600 million brownfield data center in Clarksville, owned by Google (Mountain View, California). It will be built on 1,300 acres. Construction is expected to be completed by December of next year.
The Chemical Processing Industry has 10 projects with a total investment value (TIV) of $225 million. The biggest is the $200 million modernization of the Kingsport Holston U.S. Army Munitions plant. Owned by BAE Systems plc, the modernization involves refurbishing buildings and infrastructure and installing two process lines with new technology to dispose of hazardous waste onsite, as well as minimizing the reduction of air emissions. Completion is set for December 2018.
The Alternative Fuel Industry only has two project kickoffs, which combined are worth a total of $204 million. The larger of the two is the $200 million phase I & II municipal solid waste (MSW)-to-biofuel plant in Bristol.
