Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Montney Shale, which straddles the border between central Alberta and British Columbia, is fueling the bulk of Canada's upcoming natural gas-production activity. Much of the exploration comes from companies that are using the gas as feedstock for production of natural gas liquids (NGL) and other goods. Industrial Info is tracking nearly $1 billion in active natural gas-production projects that are set to begin construction in Canada in the third quarter, all of which are to be found in Alberta or British Columbia.

Advantage Oil & Gas Limited (Calgary, Alberta), which focuses its efforts on Canada's Montney Shale, leads all other Canadian gas-production companies in its investment in third-quarter kickoffs. Advantage expects to begin a pair of exploration projects in two Montney fields this summer: the estimated $270 million Glacier Field program and the $25 million Valhalla Field program, which involve drilling 45 and 10 new wells, respectively. Advantage executives said in May they expect the company's liquids production to continue increasing through the remainder of 2019, as it ties in the new wells at Glacier and Valhalla to supply its NGL-production plants with feedstock. The company completed 10 wells at Glacier and two wells at Valhalla in the first quarter. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Glacier and Valhalla drilling programs.

Also in the Montney, NuVista Energy Limited (Calgary) is planning to bolster its production in the shale play to 110,000 barrels of oil-equivalent per day, partly through a trio of exploration projects: an estimated $140 million drilling program in its Gold Creek lease, which would add 25 new wells and two full-time drilling rigs; and a $75 million program in its Elmworth lease and a $50 million program in its Bilbo lease, each of which would add 15 new wells and one full-time rig.

Nabors Drilling Canada (Nisku, Alberta) has been awarded a contract for each of the three projects, all of which are expected to wrap up toward the end of the year. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Gold Creek, Elmworth and Bilbo projects.

ARC Resources Limited (Calgary) is the leading project developer in British Columbia, in terms of investment value. Although it recently dropped its 2019 capital expenditure program from $775 million to $700 million, its 2019 production guidance of 135,000 to 142,000 barrels of oil-equivalent per day remains unchanged, as does its spending and production estimates for 2020. Three projects show how ARC is bolstering its presence in the western half of the Montney: an estimated $100 million drilling program near the city of Taylor, which would add 15 new oil and gas wells; an $80 million program near Dawson Creek, which would add 20 gas wells; and an $24 million program near Farmington, which would add nine gas wells.

Precision Drilling Corporation (Calgary) has been awarded contracts for all three projects, which are expected to see completion in the middle of December. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Taylor, Dawson Creek and Farmington projects.
