Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Newark Energy Center, a 655-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle power generating station located in New Jersey, began commercial operations last month following its completion by Energy Investors Funds (EIF) (New York, New York).
Built in the heart of Newark, the plant utilizes two General Electric (NYSE:GE) 7F.05 Gas turbines and will generate enough electricity to power 700,000 homes throughout the state. The new facility will sell its energy and capacity into the PJM Interconnection capacity market.
The Newark Energy Center sits on 23 acres of industrial land, with close proximity to natural gas supply and electrical interconnection.
The project had a total investment value of $800 million, and engaged Skanska USA-(New York, New York) as the general contractor for the project. NAES Corporation will be responsible for providing operations and maintenance and energy management services.
