Partner-Owned Swift Current Energy's Texas Solar Project Moves Along

Industrial Info is tracking 10 projects from Swift Current Energy worth $2.9 billion, all of which are for solar generation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Partner-owned renewable-energy company Swift Current Energy (Boston, Massachusetts) said Tuesday it has completed project financing for its Tres Bahias Solar project in southeast Texas, which is under construction. Industrial Info is tracking 10 projects from Swift Current worth $2.9 billion, all of which are for solar generation.

Swift Current is majority-owned by BAES Infrastructure, which launched in March after it was spun off from Buckeye Partners LP (Houston, Texas).

The Tres Bahias project is in Calhoun County, Texas, between Houston and Corpus Christi. The plant will utilize photovoltaic (PV) solar panels from First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) to provide 195 megawatts (MW) of solar generation. Engineering, procurement, and construction firm IEA White Construction (Clinton, Indiana) began construction last year, and the project is expected to be completed later this year. Swift Current is the project developer and will be the long-term owner and operator. In October 2022, Swift Current and First Solar entered into a supply agreement to supply Swift Current with 2 gigawatts (GW) of thin-film solar modules in 2025 and 2026.

"Swift Current Energy now has more than 1 GW of solar and wind energy projects in construction across multiple power markets and states," said Eric Lammers, chief executive officer and co-founder, in a press release.

These projects include the 592.8-MW $520 million Double Black Diamond Solar Plant in central Illinois, which is the largest solar-power project in the state, according to Swift Current. Swift Current's proposed $175 million Three Rivers PV Solar Plant in Hancock, Maine, will be the largest utility-scale solar project constructed in New England, according to the company website, when it kicks off in July. Meanwhile, the proposed $125 million Harvest Gold Solar Farm in Sunflower County, Mississippi, is also in late-stage development. Both projects are expected to wrap up in 2024. Subscribers can see detailed reports on the Three Rivers and Harvest Gold projects.
