Recurrent Energy Starts Up Barren Ridge Solar Plant in California

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 60-megawatt (MW) Barren Ridge solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, which is located in Kern County, California, recently began commercial operations following its completion by owner Recurrent Energy.

The facility will generate enough energy to power more than 17,000 homes. The power will be sold under a 20-year power-purchase agreement with Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:CSIQ) (Guelph, Ontario), contracted Swinterton Renewable Energy (San Diego, California) for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

The project had a total investment value of $180 million and took just less than a year to be completed. This project adds to Kern County's growing mix of renewable-energy technology.
