Del Monte Distribution Center Nears Completion in Topeka

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Del Monte Foods Company (NYSE:DLM) (San Francisco, California), one of the country's largest fruit and vegetable canners, is about to complete construction of a distribution center adjacent to its 400,000-square-foot pet food manufacturing plant in Topeka, Kansas. Del Monte Foods is one of the country's largest and most well-known producers, distributors, and marketers of premium quality, branded and private label food and pet products for the U.S. retail market, manufacturing more than 300 different pet food products for a variety of clients.

Site work began in March on the 427,000-square-foot building; structural erection and the roof have been completed. Completion of the project is scheduled for late summer or early fall. According to company officials, 80 new jobs will be created. The company has retained the services of The Haskell Company (Jacksonville, Florida) as the designer-builder for the project.

The $26 million distribution center will replace an existing 20,000-square-foot building in Topeka, from which products are currently shipped. The center will serve pet food manufacturing operations in Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas; Buffalo, New York.; Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and Decatur, Alabama. The Topeka plant manufactures dry dog and cat food, snacks for dogs and cats, dog biscuits and other pet-food products.
